School-provided devices offer students powerful tools for learning, organization, and connection

This year, all Sequoia Grove Charter Alliance schools are ensuring all students (TK - 12th grade) have access to a school-issued Chromebook at no cost to families. These devices are more than just laptops — they’re essential tools that support learning, encourage independence, and help students engage with technology in meaningful ways.

Chromebooks give students access to digital platforms like Google Workspace, where they can organize their schedules, manage assignments, and collaborate with peers. Tools like Google Docs, Sheets, and Calendar empower students to work efficiently and develop digital literacy skills they’ll carry into college and beyond.

These devices also play a critical role in academic assessments. Students use their Chromebooks to complete STAR Assessments throughout the year and participate in state testing, including CAASPP, in the spring. By working on a familiar device, students are better prepared and more confident during these key milestones.

Get Ready for the School Year: Chromebook Tips

To help students start strong, here are a few important reminders for families:

  • Run updates early. If your Chromebook hasn’t been used over the summer, make sure to turn it on and allow time for any required updates. Without them, devices may not function properly.

  • Restart to resolve issues. A simple restart can solve many technical glitches — and save families time before reaching out for support.

  • Check student login access. Confirm that your child can log into their student Gmail. If passwords have been forgotten, now is a great time to reset them.
  • Understand what’s connected. The student Microsoft account provides access to key platforms like Gmail, Canvas, Zoom, Amazon PunchOut, and Microsoft Office — as well as the school device itself.
  • Watch for lookalike websites. Remind students to only enter their credentials on verified school platforms. If you suspect an account may have been compromised, reach out to the SGCA Helpdesk right away.

Together, we’re making sure every student has the resources they need to thrive this year.
